New Members: Mariah Jackson - K5HTR and Joe Jackson - N1LUG

February 4, 2024

Hams, Joe and his daughter Mariah have been spotted at hamfests, have visited us at our Field Day site, and have even attended a few of our meetings as guests. They decided to join the Benton Amateur Radio Society in 2024, and we would like to welcome them by sharing a little information about our two newest members.

Mariah is a student, and in her free time, she enjoys staying active in gymnastics and dance. In addition to dancing jazz, tap, and ballet, she plays the piano too! She likes attending hamfests with her dad and selling handmade crafts. Mariah looks forward to attending our meetings, upgrading her license class, and meeting new people now that she is an active member of the Benton Amateur Radio Society.

Joe is a builder and home inspector currently working for the county in which he resides. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and participating in Ham Radio activities. He is particularly involved in the HF operations and participates in special events and contests. He likes how laid back the hobby is and how it presents such a wonderful opportunity to meet new people. As a member of B.A.R.S., Joe looks forward to learning more about our Field Day operations and is looking forward to participating with us this year.

Welcome to BARS

We talk about solar activity often as hams, but how often do we actually get to see a solar flare? This picture shows the flare that was visible to the naked eye in Arkansas on April 8, 2024 during the total solar eclipse.
